Identificare monede medievale

Mesaj de Brian »

Hello,

Sorry for my English here.

I got a small medieval coin from Hungary. And I can't figure out what it is. The picture is attached as "unknown1".

I cheched the coinarchives and found a maybe related coin, "AR Ban issued by Vlad II in Wallachia".

Could you tell me what the unknown coin is? Do you think these two are related?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Best regards,
Brian

Could you make a better picture, at least of the obverse? I can't make much out of it.

If it's Hungarian, then it's from the XIIIth century. Could be Ladislaus IV, this kind of gryphon reverse is used on several of his denarii.

Huuum, thanks for your help.
I checked the denar of Ladislaus IV, but I'm not sure if they are very similar to mine. Hungarian denar of these ages are very "pretty", but mine is not really so.
Anyway, thank you for your interest.

I said only the reverse is similar, the gryphon.
Anyway, the coin probably has nothing to do with Walachia.

Dear Brian,

I understand your enthusiasm and will to believe that you have a coin of Vlad Dracul, but I have to disappoint you: it is not at all such coin. Aldor's opinions are correct.
