"Where there are no coins there is usually at least no government, often no commerce, sometimes no people, and sometimes the entire region has been enslaved. "
"Moldavia, to the north of Wallachia, remained wild and pagan a little longer than elsewhere"
Hahaha,
what a crappy article; i dont know what kind of google Bob was using but 1 min of "real" google renders hits about coins issued in romania in 14th century (1384 or so)
http://romaniancoins.ancients.info/mircea.htm
regarding the sentence: "as far as Romania is concerned, ...the three regions Transylvania, Wallachia, and Moldavia - were never united" where should i start... Just watch the history channel (they ran a documentary about dracula just this past november or so where some historians had a different opinion about that). But if Bob says otherwise....
What can i say? do read the article if you want...well i dont know what one should desire in order to read it; Certainly not accurate info about coins.
I am looking forward the next part(s), especially the one dealing with Dracula-my favorite along with Empusa- . I bet it will be a e-page turner (so to speak);
Todd
Cat despre cel urmator :
Thank you for the article, I've enjoyed it a lot. I am Romanian myself and I like reading other peoples views on the history. I have read your first article about Romanian coins too and I'm waiting for the next ones in this series too. So please don't stop just because some people enjoy making fun of others work.
Regards

http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Art ... cleId=3844
2) "The Roman empire was in a state of more or less permanent military and economic emergency from the mid-third century on. In Dacia the Goths became very numerous and bellicose. In 275 CE the Roman emperor Aurelian, pressed elsewhere, decided that prudence demanded the withdrawl of the Roman troops and administrators, leaving the civilian population to fend for itself. The Goths formed a kingdom and evidently governed tolerably well. They did not make official coinage, but there are an awful lot of small imitations of third century Roman coins in base metal from Dacia. Probably Goth."
3) "I don't know about you, but when I think "Roman Empire" I think of the second century map. Roman ring all the way around the Mediterranean, France, western Germany, Britain, Syria, half of Iraq. That all dissolved, leaving little Roman islands here and there, and then they evaporated, leaving ruins, the newcomers dismantling the ruins for building material. The northern zone, including the proto-Romania of our current interest, was confusingly overrun by numerous different groups of nomads and migrants. Goths who split into Ostrogoths and Visigoths, Avars, Huns, later Bulgars and Slavs. "
Probabil ca pana nu am intrat in EU credea ca suntem in Africa sau Asia Orientala , sau poate nici acum nu stie ca suntem in Europa .

De fapt am gresit.
