Tristan da Cunha is a group of remote islands in the south Atlantic Ocean, 2816 km (1750 miles) from South Africa and 3360 km (2088 miles) from South America. It is a dependency of the British overseas territory of Saint Helena, 2161 km (1350 miles) to the north. The territory consists of the main island, Tristan da Cunha (98 km²), as well as several uninhabited islands: Inaccessible Island and the Nightingale Islands. Gough Island, situated 395 km south east of the main island, is also part of the territory.

The territory is considered one of the most remote human settlements in the world.

Este o dependenţă a teritoriului britanic de peste mări Sfânta Elena situată la 2161 km la nord. Teritoriul este format din insula principală Tristan da Cunha cu o suprafaţă de 98 km² şi din insulele nelocuite Insula inaccesibilă şi Insula Nightingale. Insula Gough situată la 395 km sud est face de asemenea parte din teritoriu.

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is a British overseas territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. The territory was formed in 1985; previously it was governed as part of the Falkland Islands Dependencies. It is a remote and inhospitable collection of islands, consisting of South Georgia – which measures approximately 100 miles (160.9 km) by 18 miles (29 km) and is by far the largest island in the territory – and a group of smaller islands known as the South Sandwich Islands. There is no native population on any of the islands, and the only inhabitants are the British Government Officer, scientists and support staff from the British Antarctic Survey who maintain scientific bases at Bird Island and the capital, King Edward Point, and museum staff at nearby Grytviken.
